Full Description

The authors of this book advocate not starting the encounter in the theoretical field as usual, in conversations about fundamental religious questions, for example, but rather about common everyday matters and their surprisingly deep religious attachments. The authors experienced in the interreligious learning process not only want to build bridges of understanding, but also interreligious communication: How does a mixed marriage between a Christian theologian and his Islamic wife work? How do you raise your children? What are the religious principles involved? This book chooses a different approach to interreligious learning than usual. It does not draft a program derived from theoretical considerations, but rather unsystematically pursues everyday things and asks how people from different religions and cultures cope with them. It is these apparently very simple issues such as dealing with illness and health, food, clothing and housing, marriage, partnership and raising children, and finally dying and death. On closer inspection, however, it quickly turns out that the whole is reflected in the daily habits, the cultural and religious attachment of people. The authors advocate arranging authentic encounters for such everyday occurrences in order to find an approach to interreligious learning from them. Experts from different religions want to encourage people to dare to dare to have an interreligious encounter in everyday life. Impressive, for example, is the example of a Christian-Islamic "mixed marriage" who managed to convince those around them, including the imam, even though the husband, as a Christian theologian, did not find a church job. The volume ends with two contributions in which the careful attempt is made to formulate systematic guidelines for interreligious learning. F. Rickers writes for religious education and advocates opening beyond the interreligious to transcultural dimensions. The philosopher Ram Adhar Mall, rooted in Hindu tradition, shows ways in which one truth can be sought in the variety of approaches.
