Was macht eine kunsthistorische Architekturgeschichte aus? Welches Erkenntnisinteresse verfolgt sie, und was kann sie leisten? Architekturgeschichte hat heute erneut das Potenzial, durch ihren medialen Eigenwert die kunstgeschichtliche Auseinandersetzung mit dem impact gestalteter Umwelt zu erweitern. What defines an art-historical approach to architectural history? What aims does it pursue, and what insights can it offer? This festschrift, celebrating the 65th birthday of Christian Freigang, gathers fifteen contributions from the honoree's colleagues, each exploring these questions through engagement with specific buildings, images, and stories spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day: from the ancient Via Appia to new museum constructions, from the Sainte-Chapelle to the Eiffel Tower, and from High Gothic to the history of heritage conservation. The essays reflect a selection of themes central to Christian Freigang's research interests. In this way, the book opens a dialogue on architecture, exploring the richly interwoven relationships between buildings, images, and stories. Florian Abe studierte Kunstgeschichte, Klassische Archäologie, Englische Philologie und Bildende Kunst. Er ist wissenschaftlicher Referent der Tucher Kulturstiftung. Christine Beese ist Juniorprofessorin für Architekturgeschichte an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum sowie Forschungsgruppenleiterin der Emmy Noether Gruppe "Räume der Anschauung - Topographien des Wissens. Anatomische Theater zwischen Kunst, Natur und Wissenschaft".
