Description
It is astounding that Eugen Gottlob Winkler (1912-1936) is almost forgotten today. This young ambitious writer refused to accept the new reality of National Socialism and put his whole existence at risk in order to resist cooperation. As a writer he strove to embrace modernity but at the same time to remain humane. Siegfried Unseld called him 'an archangel-like' figure among the sinister brown shirts of his time. Based on his life as well as on his fragmentary work this book aims to reconstruct the convictions and values that enabled Winkler to stay resilient against National Socialism.
