Description
In this thesis, numerical and analytical modeling of the base plate connection has been carried out. It has been shown, and reasoned, where the current design guidelines and the previous studies fail to provide a safe design methodology. Finally, several methods have been proposed to accurately model the base plate connections in both cases, rigid and flexible. The proposed methods can be used manually and do not require expensive finite element codes to run the analysis. The finite element analysis is only made to validate the proposed methods. It has been seen by comparing the results from finite element and the proposed method that the agreement is quite satisfactory.
