Mit den Originalillustrationen des Autors im Innenteil

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, geboren 1900 in Lyon, stammt aus einer der ältesten, französischen Adelsfamilien. 1921 bis 1923 absolvierte er seinen Wehrdienst bei der Luftwaffe in Straßburg und wurde zum Flugzeugmechaniker und schließlich zum Piloten ausgebildet. Seit 1926 war er Linienpilot, später dann Postpilot nach Argentinien und Saigon. 1926 trat er erstmals als Autor mit der Novelle Der Flieger hervor, sein Roman Nachtflug machte ihn 1930 berühmt. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg war Saint-Exupéry zunächst Ausbilder für Piloten, dann Pilot bei einem Aufklärungsgeschwader. 1943 erschien Der kleine Prinz, das bekannteste Buch von Saint-Exupéry, in welchem er seine Gedanken über den Sinn des Lebens thematisiert. 1944 kehrte er von einem Flug Richtung Grenoble nicht zurück und gilt seither als verschollen.
