Despite the very good preservation of some remains of Roman military camps in Noricum, the state of knowledge about the individual fortifications is still very limited. Only the history of the fort of Mautern is well known from excavations. The analysis and evaluation of archaeological investigations (2002-2012) in Arelape/Pöchlarn now makes it possible to trace the development of this fort from its foundation in the second half of the 1st century AD to its abandonment in the late 5th or early 6th century AD. The analysis of the building structures and the archaeological finds makes it possible to answer questions on chronology, but also on the function of the exposed buildings, on the units stationed in the fort, and on the use of the site in Late Antiquity.
