Plant fibers are vital components of the plant kingdom, serving essential roles in structure, support, and ecological interactions. This study explores the composition, types, and significance of plant fibers, shedding light on their multifaceted functions. Plant fibers are primarily composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which contribute to their strength and resilience. The diversity of fiber types-ranging from the soft, flexible fibers found in cotton to the strong, durable fibers in hemp-highlights the evolutionary adaptations that enhance plant survival and reproduction. The significance of plant fibers extends beyond their mechanical properties. In terrestrial ecosystems, they play a crucial role in soil health by contributing to organic matter and improving soil structure. Additionally, plant fibers have a direct impact on human life through their use in textiles, construction materials, and biocomposites. The increasing interest in sustainable biodegradable materials has led to a resurgence in the study of plant fibers, prompting innovative applications in various industries. Dr. Alka Rajput, is a Former Assistant Professor in School of Bioscience, at RIMT University, and got a doctorate degree from the Department of Botany, Punjabi University. She has received the Best Research Paper of the year award on the application of TLC/ HPTLC in Pharma, Herbal. She also got a fellowship under UGC-BSR Scheme, June 2015-20.
