Polymer/clay nanocomposites are materials that possess unique properties. These properties are enhanced properties of the polymer matrix. Some of the improved properties are thermal stability, permeability to gases, flammability,mechanical strength and photo-degradability. At complete dispersion of the clay layers in the polymer matrix, these enhanced properties are obtained. The unique properties of the material makes it suitable in applications as, food and beverage packaging, automobile parts, furniture, carrier bags, electrical gadgets and so on.

Antwi, Boniface YeboahThe author is a trained Chemist with a Bsc. Chemistry degree from the Chemistry department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana. In 2012, he graduated from the same university with a second degree in MPhil. Polymer Science and Technology. He has a strong interest in Material Chemistry.
