Written by a team of international scholars, the seventeen essays in this book collectively and critically reflect on the historical genesis of modern racism, from its constitution in early modernity, and its systematization in the Enlightenment period, to various forms of its popularization in modern society. This structure derives from the work of Wulf D. Hund, to whom this festschrift is dedicated. Inspired by his analysis of racialized discourses in European thought and global history, the book shows modern racism to be a mode of a negative societalization.
