Dr. h. c. Lothar Späth, geboren 1937 in Sigmaringen, wurde 1967 Bürgermeister von Bietigheim. Von 1970 bis 1974 war er Vorstandsmitglied der Neuen Heimat Hamburg, 1970 bis 1977 erst Aufsichtsrats- und dann Vorstandsmitglied der Baresel AG in Stuttgart. Von 1968 bis 1978 gehörte er dem baden-württembergischen Landtag an, wo er von 1972 bis 1978 CDU-Fraktionsvorsitzender war. 1978 wurde er Innenminister und danach Ministerpräsident von Baden-Württemberg. Von 1981 bis 1989 war er stellvertretender CDU-Bundesvorsitzender. Seit 1991 ist er Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung bzw. Vorstandsvorsitzender der Jenoptik in Jena, seit 1992 norwegischer Generalkonsul in Thüringen und Sachsen-Anhalt, seit 1996 Präsident der IHK Ostthüringen zu Gera, seit 2001 Honorarprofessor an der Universität Jena. Er hat mehrere erfolgreiche Bücher veröffentlicht und moderiert die ntv-Talkshow "Späth am Abend".
