Description
(Text)
Originally written as a doctoral paper submitted to the faculty of Northern Baptist Seminary, Can the Church Say Amen is a distinct and academic examination of preaching. Within the African American tradition one can find a wide array of homiletic genius. African American preaching includes a rich variety of dynamic, eloquent, charismatic orators, scholars and theologians. The most renown preachers have been known to celebrate the gospel or good news that they've been called to preach. Celebration can be described as the ability to engage a crowd or congregation in such a way that they respond with exuberant joy. This kind of preaching is typified by climactic moments of engaging interpretation of scripture and effective delivery that encourages listeners to respond with affirmations, shouts of joy, and even dance. No longer restricted to the African American tradition, a universal appreciation continues to develop for this style and method of preaching. This book provides a systematic analysis and approach to celebration that anyone can employ in their development as a preacher.
