Description
(Text)
African American s academic outcomes presents theacademic outcomes of African Americans related tothe historical and cultural experiences of AfricanAmericans in U.S. culture. This book demonstrateshow culture or the difference in culture plays a keyrole in understanding the difference in academicoutcomes. Given the difference in wealth and othersocioeconomic indicators, the academic outcomes ofAfrican American differ from that of EuropeanAmericans. The argument presented in this booksuggests that differences in cultural historypresents differences in the way in which socialfactors influence different cultural groups. In turnmeasure two cultural groups using the measuringstick of one of the cultures (European Americancultures) places the other culture (African Americanculture) at a disadvantage. This book demonstratedthat social factors affect cultural groupsdifferently because the historical response tocultural groups is different. Further, findings inthis book support the need for more research showingfactors which promote academic success among AfricanAmerican students.
