Description

(Text)
The effect of the life in the womb on emotional andphysical health can be greater than the genes weinherit. Recent research suggests that the conditionin the uterus can significantly determine how anoffspring's brain and mind will function atadulthood. If a mother suffers trauma or experiencesexcessive stress during pregnancy, the offspring'sare born with certain deficiencies which may persistinto adulthood. Studies have shown that mentaldisorders such as schizophrenia, depression, anxietyand autism in humans are the outcome of stressexperienced by a mother during pregnancy. Maternalstress during pregnancy has also been linked withlower birth weight, height, and is known to impairattention, memory, and intelligence of the offspring. My work provides new evidence that stress experiencedby a mother during pregnancy can have a significantimpact on offspring's neural circuit development. This book provides important insights on how stressexperienced by a mother during pregnancy can changethe development of neurons in the offspring andultimately the brain functions and the behaviors.
