Full Description
Linguistic landscape is a recent area of scholarly interest. This phenomenon rapidly gained attention in various disciplines of academic research, including media, tourism, economics, sociology, geography and pedagogy. In this context, previous papers have been approaching linguistic landscape from several theoretical, empirical and analytical perspectives. By employing both quantitative and qualitative methods, the main axis of this study is built upon three interrelated research objects. The first part of the study investigates the sociolinguistic composition of Bremen in Germany. It is also revealing the impact of linguistic landscape signs on promoting second language (L2) learners' communicative competence in general and L2 learners of German in particular. And finally, the study is evaluating the most pertinent language teaching approach and/or method for integrating linguistic landscape signs in adult L2 acquisition environments in general and German educational contexts in particular.
