Providing a review of experimental and clinical research on growth hormone, this text summarizes the basic science and clinical research that has been conducted in this field, a science that has increased considerably since the 1980s. It describes the genetics of growth hormone expression, the molecular modification of growth hormone resulting in its heterogenous group of active polypeptides, growth hormone binding and cellular membrane receptors which modify and regulate its activity, and physiologic factors which control growth hormone secretion.
