The book explores the question of when the process of the official introduction of the Reformation and the formation of Protestant denominations began in the imperial city of Speyer and how and via which paths and forms it took place. The study period covers the years 1538 to 1580. On the basis of an intensive evaluation of the available archival and printed sources, the study - correcting previous research - comes to completely new results. With the addition of an edition of the archival sources, the book sets standards in the field of research into the introduction of the Reformation.
