Die Korrespondenz zwischen dem Theologen Adolf Harnack und dem Ministerialdirektor Friedrich Althoff bietet einmalige Einblicke in die Berufungs-, Kirchen-, Bildungs- und Wissenschaftsorganisation und -politik des wilhelminischen Kaiserreichs. Die Berufung evangelischer Theologen kommt darin ebenso zur Sprache wie Streitfälle innerhalb der evangelischen und katholischen Kirche. Die Korrespondenz veranschaulicht so eindrücklich das umfangreiche Netzwerk und den weitreichenden Einfluss des mächtigen Ministerialdirektors Friedrich Althoff und des berühmten Kirchenhistorikers Adolf Harnack.

»The Correspondence Between Adolf Harnack and Friedrich Althoff (1886-1908). Edition with Introduction, Commentary, Biographical Notes, and Indices«: The edition presents the correspondence between the theologian Adolf Harnack and the director in the Prussian Ministry of Education Friedrich Althoff. It is accompanied by an introduction, an extensive commentary, and an appendix containing copious biographical notes and indices of persons, places, and subjects. The correspondence illustrates Harnack's and Althoff's involvement in Church politics, the reform of the school system, and the organisation of a modern system of science in Wilhelmine Germany.

Wolfram Kinzig holds the Chair of Church History with a focus on the Early Church at the University of Bonn. In addition to his studies of the Early Church, he has published numerous works on the history of academic theology in the 19th and 20th centuries, with a particular focus on Adolf von Harnack. One of his most important publications in this field is »Harnack, Marcion und das Judentum« (Leipzig, 2004).Claudia Kampmann is 'Privatdozent' in Church History at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Bonn. In addition to her studies in theology, Church history and the first Women's Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, she has focused in particular on the life and theology of Adolf Harnack. One of her most important publications is »Adolf Harnack zur 'Frauenfrage'« (Leipzig 2018).
