Description
The liberal democracy is founded on religious and ideological neutrality. But precisely for this reason, however, it depends on social institutions that provide ethical principles and therefore can strengthen a democratic political culture. What role do religious communities like Christian churches play here? What is the significance of religion for the public sphere? How can a pluralistic, democratic society protect itself from religious fanaticism? The United States of America and Germany answer these questions in different ways. An interdisciplinary exchange between scholars from both sides of the Atlantic is therefore all the more important. I.
