Religiosität ist eines der elementarsten Bedürfnisse des Menschen. Nicht umsonst ist Religion ein ständiger Begleiter aller kultureller Epochen der Menschheit. Diese Monografie geht der Frage nach, was die Gesellschaft zusammenhält und welchen Beitrag dazu die Religion, vermittels der evangelischen Kirche als Gesellschaftskirche leistet. Dies hat nicht nur, wie zu vermuten wäre, einen praktischen und haptischen Bezug, so als würde Kirche nur noch durch eine Verkündigung mit Händen und Füßen in Form der Diakonie als tätige Nächstenliebe erfahrbar und gesellschaftlich akzeptiert. Es geht um die Bedeutung von Theologie und Kirche für die Gesellschaft als Ganze.
[Religious Public Services. The Church, Social Welfare Work and the Essential Cohesion of Society]
Religiosity is one of humankind's most fundamental needs. It is no coincidence that religion has been a constant companion throughout all cultural epochs of humanity. This monograph explores what holds society together and what contribution religion, through the Protestant Church as a church for society, makes to this cohesion. This is not merely, as one might assume, a practical and tangible matter, as if the Church could only be experienced and socially accepted through a hands-on proclamation in the form of diakonia (service) as active charity. Rather, it examines the significance of theology and the Church for society and its cohesion. Frank Weyen, Dr. theol. Jahrgang 1965, ist außerplanmäßiger Professor für Praktische Theologie und Diakoniewissenschaft an der Universität Münster, Privatdozent für Praktische Theologie an der Universität Zürich, Vorstandsmitglied im Pastorenausschuss der Evangelisch-lutherischen Landeskirche Hannovers sowie Gemeindepfarrer.
