Gerechtigkeit und Frieden sind zentrale biblische Topoi. Angesichts der aktuellen, weltweiten friedenspolitischen Herausforderungen gilt es, die Friedensverheißungen der Propheten des Alten oder Ersten Testaments und die Friedensbotschaft Jesu Christi von Neuem zu bedenken und zu profilieren. Die weltweite Ökumene hat sich anlässlich der Vollversammlung des ÖRK in Busan 2013 auf einen Pilgerweg der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens gemacht. An diesen knüpft die Synode der EKD im Jahr 2019 mit ihrem Schwerpunktthema Frieden an.Die Beiträge im vorliegenden Band stellen in Vorbereitung und für die Nacharbeit dieser Synode Hintergrundinformationen zur Verfügung: biblisch-theologische und ethische, kirchlich und ökumenisch ausgerichtete Orientierungen ebenso wie solche, die die gegenwärtige welt- und gesellschaftspolitische Lage, waffentechnische Entwicklungen, Fragen der gesellschaftlichen Verankerung des Friedens oder der Nachhaltigkeit und Schöpfungsbewahrung reflektieren. Eine wesentliche Erkenntnis all dieser Überlegungen ist es, dass der anvisierte kirchliche Weg über die Profilierung des Vorrangs des Zivilen und der Gewaltfreiheit führen müssen wird.Towards a Church of Justice and Peace. A Peace Theological ReaderJustice and peace are central biblical topoi. In view of the current global peace policy challenges, it is necessary to reconsider and profile the peace promises of the prophets of the Old or First Testament and the peace message of Jesus Christ. The global ecumenical movement embarked on a Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace at the 2013 WCC Assembly in Busan. The Synod of the EKD in 2019, with its focus on peace, has been following up on this.The contributions in this volume provide background information in preparation for and for the follow-up to this Synod: biblical-theological and ethical, ecclesial and ecumenical orientations and reflections on the current world and socio-political situation, on developments in weapons technology, on questions of the social embedding of peace, of sustainability and of the integrity of creation. An essential insight of all these considerations is that the envisaged church approach must focus on profiling the primacy of civility and non-violence.
