Rechtfertigung und Neues Sein stellen zwei Stichworte dar, in denen sich die Theologie Paul Tillichs brennpunktartig verdichtet. Die Begriffe signalisieren einerseits den Anschluss an die protestantische Lehrtradition, andererseits deren Umformung vor dem Hintergrund der Moderne. Mit dem frühen Aufsatz »Rechtfertigung und Zweifel« (1924) sowie dem späten »Das Neue Sein als Zentralbegriff einer christlichen Theologie« (1955) werden in dem Band zwei Schlüsseltexte Tillichs kommentierend erschlossen, die ins Zentrum seiner Theologie führen und sein Ringen um eine modernegemäße Fassung des christlichen Glaubens sowie der Theologie dokumentieren.[Justification and New Being]Justification and New Being are two main concepts in Paul Tillich's theology. Justification and New Being are two main concepts in Paul Tillich's theology. The concept of justification on the one side shows Tillich's theology against the background of the Lutheran theological tradition - the new being on the other side includes the horizon of problems in modernity. This book presents with the early article "Justification and Doubt" (1924) and the late essay "The Importance of New Being for Christian Theology" (1955) two main works from Tillich with a close interpretation. Both texts make clear how Tillich works on a modern interpretation of the Christian faith and a modern theology.
