Wenn vormals Fremde in eine gastgebende Gemeinschaft aufgenommen werden, "passiert" Gastfreundschaft. Im Ideal hilft dabei ein komplexes Netzwerk ungeschriebener Regeln, Asymmetrien von Machtverhältnissen lebensfördernd auszugleichen. Und mit der Erfahrung des Gelingens von Gastlichkeit wird durchaus eine Hoffnung über ihre zeitliche Begrenzung hinaus verbunden.
Dieser hochaktuelle Band [Tagungsband der Gesellschaft für Evangelische Theologie] legt den Fokus auf das Phänomen der Verschränkung der Rollen von Gast und Gastgeber, das in sozialwissenschaftlichen und ebenso in theologischen Überlegungen zur Wirklichkeit und zu einer Kultur von Gastlichkeit thematisiert wird. Sowohl die jüdisch-christliche (Gott als Gastgeber, aber auch als Gast) als auch die muslimische Tradition kennt diese Rollen-Verschränkung. Wie stark ist ihr machtkritisches Potential?

When, as in former times, strangers are welcomed by a host community, hospitality "happens". Ideally a complex network of unwritten rules helps to balance in a life-supporting way asymmetries of power relations. And the experience of a successful hospitality is certainly sometimes connected with a hope beyond its temporal limitation. This volume on a highly topical subject [conference proceedings of the Society for Protestant Theology] focuses on the phenomenon of the interlacing of the roles of guest and host which is examined from perspectives of social science and theology in regard to the reality and culture of hospitality. Both in the Judeo-Christian tradition (God as host but also as a guest) and in the Islamic tradition this interlacing of roles is known. How strong is its potential for a critique of power?
