Description
The primary current injector is a device used for efficient commissioning and maintenance tasks at substations. It brings equipment close to the device under test, automates current control, and requires only one operator. This injector performs various tests, including high-current testing using a secondary pass-through technique. A single conductor passes through the equipment to transmit current to the object being tested, reducing preparation time and eliminating power losses. The digitally generated variable frequency waveform is delivered with precision through a power amplifier, ensuring stable operation despite load and voltage fluctuations.Primary current injection testing is essential for large electrical installations like substations, where it injects high currents directly into systems such as circuit breakers. This test assesses system performance under different current loads, particularly testing over-current trip relays connected to circuit breakers. It simulates real-world conditions to ensure reliable breaker operation, preventing potential catastrophic damage from failures during high-current events. I pursued a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Electrical Engineering at the Open University of Sri Lanka and am currently employed at a renewable energy firm.
