Während die Einbettung der griechischen Religion in die Gesellschaft in der modernen Wissenschaft wiederholt thematisiert worden ist, fehlt eine eingehende Betrachtung der sozio-religiösen Aspekte von Bildung und Wissen. Die Beiträge fragen nach Kontexten, Akteuren und Medien, durch die Religion, Bildung und Wissen innerhalb und außerhalb spezifischer Gemeinschaften vermittelt wurden. Der chronologische Rahmen erstreckt sich von der Klassik bis zur Spätantike.
