Zweifellos gab es viele Formen der Interaktion zwischen den verschiedenen Gruppen im griechisch-römischen Ägypten, wie eine Vielzahl mehr oder weniger aktueller regionaler Studien bestätigt hat. Es ist bekannt, dass Ägypten eine Art Sonderstellung bei der Erforschung antiker Kulturen und Religionen innehat, da es der Wissenschaft ermöglicht, sich auf eine große Anzahl unterschiedlicher Dokumente zu beziehen. Es ist das Hauptziel dieses Bandes, die Vielfalt des Materials interaktiv zu untersuchen. Aus sozio-kultureller Perspektive untermauert eine solche Analyse die Darstellung Ägyptens als ein allgegenwärtiges kulturelles System, in dem verschiedene Eliten sich, über Jahrhunderte, um eine bestimmte Anzahl standardisierter Modalitäten scharten und "kulturelle" und "religiöse" Mikrosysteme bildeten: auch wenn die unterschiedlichen Sprachen und textuellen Bräuche fortbestehen, reagieren Menschen auf bestimmte Modalitäten der Lebensgemeinschaft unter dem Schirm dieses vorherrschenden kulturellen "Feldes".
