Die von Mike Newell 1994 verfilmte Romantic Comedy gehört zu den großen Kinoerfolgen der 1990er-Jahre. Mit viel Humor werden kulturelle Werte und britische Traditionen dargestellt, sodass der Film vielfältige Möglichkeiten der Auseinandersetzung mit britischer Alltagskultur bietet.
