Description
Democracy does not present itself in a globally uniform way, and there is no singular conception of "democracy," not even a worldwide consensus about its value.
The contributors take the popular word of democracy being "by the people, for the people" as starting point to explore the formation of democracy in different countries (UK, China), and from different perspectives (e.g., an African view on democracies in Africa). A dedicated section addresses democracy from various philosophical, legal, and historical perspectives. This book offers indispensable reference reading for the understanding of democracy in today's world.
