Seit über einem Jahrzehnt entwirft das in Brooklyn ansässige Architekturbüro SO-IL Häuser, Wohnungen und andere Projekte, die sich zwischen und neben privaten Wohnräumen bewegen. SO-IL nähert sich diesen Orten mit grosser Experimentierfreude und überdenkt somit den heutigen Zustand des Wohnraumdesigns, der oftmals durch wirtschaftliche Bedingungen unter Druck gesetzt wird. In diesem Buch rücken die Versuche des Architekturbüros, diese Codes, Kerne, Höfe und Korridore zu «hacken» in den Mittelpunkt. «In Depth» untersucht anhand So-Ils jüngster Projekte, wie Wohnungen das Wohlbefinden ihrer Bewohner:innen fördern können, präsentiert neue Typologien für unsere immer stärker urbanisierte Welt und richtet sich damit zugleich an Studierende und Fachleute.

For over a decade, Brooklyn-based SO-IL has been envisioning houses, housings and other projects in between and adjacent to domestic spaces. Reflecting on the state of housing design today - often constrained by pressures of production - SO-IL approaches these sites with generous experimentation. In this book, the design office's attempt to "hack" the codes, cores, courts and corridors takes center stage, exemplified by a selection of SO-IL's most recent projects, exploring concepts including porosity, connectivity, community and orientation in urban living. Appealing to students and professionals alike, "In Depth" examines how housing might promote the well-being of its inhabitants by presenting new typologies for our ever-more urbanized world.

Florian Idenburg, Gründer und Partner von Solid Objectives Idenburg Liu (SO-IL), New York City und bis 2007 Project Architect bei Kazuyo Sejima und Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA in Tokyo.Jing Liu, 1980 in China geboren, ist Gründungspartnerin von SO-IL. Sie studierte in China, Japan, Grossbritannien und den USA und schloss mit einem Master in Architektur an der Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans ab. Liu unterrichtet momentan an der GSAPP der Columbia University und an Parsons The New School for Design.
