Full Description
This book offers a strategic approach to promoting sustainable and resilient infrastructure services through the lens of infrastructure networks, interdependencies, and criticality. It examines how these services confront abrupt disruptions of human and non-human origins that produce fatalities. The focus is on infrastructure services that provide a platform for integrating social, technological, and environmental dimensions with infrastructure.
The work is based on and integrates theories about networks. It incorporates human behavior and institutional engagement as drivers and foundations for network structures that support sustainable and resilient infrastructure services. Networks are also used to identify critical connection points (criticality) that can be leveraged to promote change in or maintain infrastructure sustainability.
The work presented here offers pathways to greater integration of sustainability components and guidance for simplifying this integration by identifying and operationalizing inflexion, trigger, or criticality points. It integrates systems and networks literature more comprehensively into the problem while also considering the cross-cutting dimensions of space, including institutional scales from local to global, time, including transformations and adaptations, function, and institutional dimensions.
