Full Description
This book highlights all the women who have received the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from 1970 - 2007 (a companion book continues through 2024). The book provides an overview of the life of each woman and discusses her scientific and technical contribution in a manner that is accessible to those with little or no formal training in science. The evolution of the opportunities available to women in education and the professions becomes evident as the reader moves chronologically through the women, their biographies and their contributions. Some recipients have received Nobel Prizes for their work and have become members of one of more of the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Sciences, and the National Academy of Medicine. Others have been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
