Le dessin de bijou est longtemps resté à l'abri des regards et du public. Fonctionnels ou porteurs de rêves inaboutis, ces bijoux de papier constituent pourtant, depuis le xve siècle, la part d'ombre des modèles auxquels ils ont bien souvent donné naissance.
Cet ouvrage présente une centaine de dessins, essentiellement issus du Fonds Van Cleef & Arpels sur la Culture Joaillière, allant de la deuxième moitié du xviiie siècle au début du xxe siècle. Il permet de mettre pour la première fois en lumière ce pan des arts décoratifs totalement méconnu, dans lequel des artisans ou artistes anonymes côtoient les grande figures de la joaillerie, Tiffany, Lalique, Vever, ou des ateliers de renom comme Paillet, Brédillard et Mellerio Borgnis.
A travers l'étude de sa technique, de ses auteurs ou de son usage, le livre, qui accompagne l'exposition à l'École des arts joailliers, à partir du 08 mai 2021, permet de saisir les enjeux comme la richesse de ce support, à la fois outil, document d'archives et véritable œuvre d'art.

Full Description

The design of jewellery has long remained hidden from view and the public. Functional or bearers of unfulfilled dreams, since the 15th century these paper jewels have nevertheless been the unrevealed aspect of the models to which they have often given birth.

This book presents a hundred drawings, mainly from the Van Cleef & Arpels Fund on Jewelery Culture, ranging from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. It allows for the first time to shed light on this completely unknown part of the decorative arts, in which anonymous craftsmen or artists rub shoulders with the great figures of jewellery, Tiffany, Lalique, Vever, or renowned workshops such as Paillet, Brédillard and Mellerio, and Borgnis.

Through the study of its technique, its authors or its use, the book, which accompanies the exhibition at the École des arts joailliers, from 6 October 2021, allows us to grasp the issues such as the richness of this support, both a tool, an archival document and a true work of art.
