James K.M. Cheng's work has received numerous design awards, including Canada's Governor General's Medal in Architecture. Many of its award-winning projects are featured in this first monograph of an important presence in contemporary culture. James K.M. Cheng established his firm in 1978 upon winning the competition for the Chinese Cultural Center in Vancouver, BC, Canada. His architectural credentials were earned after studying under Richard Meier at Harvard, and following his apprenticeship with Arthur Erickson. Since its inception, the firm's work has focused on high-density urban projects and urban design, and has become well-known for its professionalism and the integration of landscape, interior design and architecture in all of its projects. Extensive photographs illustrate an evolving body of architecture and urban design projects in Canada, the United States and Asia. From single-family houses to major mixed-use communities, the designs featured demonstrate the firm's commitment to redefining urban living.
