We have long been fascinated by immortality. If, as is currently thought, aging and death are actually a result of genetic programming, then new frontiers being opened by biotechnology may make it possible to identify the genes that cause aging and turn them off. When built, Timeship will be the world's most secure and technologically advanced facility for the long-term storage of cryopreserved biological materials and a centre for research into life extension. Its 6-acre structure has been designed to provide safety and security for up to 100 years against multiple threats, both natural and human-made, including terrorist attack, changes to sea levels and the interruption of energy supplies. Incorporated into the design are symbols of security and rebirth.
