In this book the author looks at how people suffering from dementing disorders in old age are regarded in the legal systems of the United States, England and Scotland. After defining what is meant by senile dementia the book examines the issues surrounding the legal declaration of incompetence and guardianship and then goes on to examine the issues of the retention of autonomy in estate and asset management and health and medical decision making. Attention is also paid to the dilemmas and responsibilities of professionals and relatives in relation to those suffering from senile dementia.
