日本総代理店：㈱紀伊國屋書店。幻想文学の傾向も、デフォーの作品にしばしば見られます。例えば、The Consolidator (1705) で、語り手が月に旅し、そこで見つけたイングランドやヨーロッパにも見られる沢山の事物の批判を展開します。晩年のデフォーは、超自然現象についての諷刺的書き物も残しました。チャールズ・ディケンズの愛読書The Political History of the Devil (1726) や、黒魔術の歴史、また、幽霊の迷信を扱ったAn Essay on the History and Reality of Apparitions (1727) では、迷信を嘲弄的に諷刺する一方、夢の中での天使との交感の可能性については認めています。
