This text aims to bridge the gap between the study of sociology and students from minority backgrounds, particularly those attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as well as first-generation college students. The book reexamines sociological theory with a focus on making it relevant and accessible to these audiences. By highlighting the work of W.E.B. Du Bois and other significant sociologists, it introduces students to the discipline's rich and varied perspectives, while also underscoring the implicit biases that have historically excluded minority contributors.
