The human interest in language is spurred by the intrinsic need to communicate. This intrinsic need makes communication the most important aspect of human life. Language is a universal tool used in expressing our inner sense and emotions. We use language to decode complexities and abstract thoughts. It is through language that we communicate with others, fulfill our daily needs and wants, and establish rules that align us within our different cultures.
The simplest definition of language is that it is a physical, verbal, biologically and basic form of communication. Some experts' definition of language is that it is a learned behavior that involves a response to stimulus. In some instances, language can be termed as a verbal behavior that defines body movements and gestures that may or may not be aligned to spoken words.
In defining language, we must also think about symbols, gestures, and motion as a common thing. The reason behind this is to ensure that the deaf community is considered. Languages all over the world have some common characteristics which define their organizational structures and order.
When a child learns how to speak, read, and write, it is quite noticeable that there is an inherent connection in these skills.
