Full Description
In this shocking story of captured B-29 airmen who were shot down over Japan during World War II, flight engineer Lt. Fiske Hanley II tells of the torture, beatings, and starvation they suffered at the hands of their captors. Treated as "special prisoners" by the Japanese Kempei Tai (secret police), they were held in Tokyo, living in an overcrowded and filthy dungeon without clothes or food and with no medical treatment. Many of his fellow prisoners died, but Hanley lived to bear witness to war crimes prosecutors aft er the war and to record the horror of the harrowing ordeal he and other American flyers experienced.
