Imagine ending poverty at home and around the globe in our own lifetimes. Imagine your actions combining with others; actions to make poverty history. With originality and imagination, this book invites us to look at our very ordinary days, from waking up in the morning to going to bed in the evening, and to begin to think about poverty in new and creative ways. Our Day to End Poverty is organized into 24 "hour/chapter" segments. Each chapter/hour of the day proposes a variety of fun and practical actions one can take to help overcome domestic and global poverty. The chapters are short and pithy, full of specific facts and a menu of alternative action steps. Each chapter connects with your day, from breakfast to bedtime, relatinng these steps to ending poverty to our daily routines. Some times a problem gets to be so big, we feel there is nothing we can do about it. Our Day to End Poverty reminds us that if we all do just a little, a lot can get done.

The Beginning of Our Day. How this book came into being and the team that created it. Good Morning. Our vision and the book's organization. Morning. 1. Breakfast- get a good start to the day, Together we can "break the fast" and end acute hunger and starvation. 2. Commute to Work- plan the day; make some calls, Good transportation allows us to make a living and protect the environment. 3. Everyone Needs an Education- get the kids to school, Education helps prepare us all for productive futures. 4. Protect our Children- take kids to child care, All children-everywhere-need and deserve to be safe and well cared for. 5. Children's Health- visit the pediatrician, Healthy children strengthen families and our futures. 6. Sustainable Food Sources- work in the garden, We all need sustainable food sources. 7. Responsible Shopping- coffee break! By choosing and supporting socially responsible products and producers, we can help developing markets empower people. 8. More Thoughts on Giving, What and how we give helps end poverty. Afternoon. 9. Lunch- lunch meeting, Together we can end the "hidden hunger" of chronic malnutrition. 10. The Work Day- pick up paycheck, Jobs with fair wages can and should be a path out of poverty. 11. Technology: Important Tools- check e mail, Computers, phones, and other technology connects people providing a route out of poverty. 12. Protect and Honor Women- return Mom's phone call, When women flourish, families and communities flourish. 13. Adult Health- schedule check-up, Wellness is our goal. 14. Safe, Affordable Homes- clean the house, Everyone deserves to have a safe living space. 15. Reduce Debt- refinance the house, Overwhelming national debt blocks progress out of poverty. 16. More Thoughts on Volunteering, How we give our time and energy can make a big difference in ending poverty. Evening. 17. Dinner- invite friends for dinner, Sharing a meal with others creates an opportunity to nurture commitment to ending global poverty. 18. Access to Credit- stop by the bank, Microcredit enables people to profit from their work and leave poverty behind. 19. Literacy for All- return books to the library, Literacy is key for moving out of poverty. 20. Take a Vacation- order tickets, Travels offers opportunities to understand and respond to poverty, first hand. 21. Mother's Health- take gift to new mother, Saving lives of women in childbirth creates a future filled with promise. 22. Clean Water and Sanitation- get the faucet fixed, Access to drinkable water and sanitary conditions is essential. 23. Meet or Exceed the 0.7% Goal- pay bills, Working together we can meet or exceed goals set by world leaders. 24. More Thoughts on Advocating, Make all our voices heard. Good Night.
