In 1915, an outbreak of meningitis affected the Eastern Command in the British Army. Foster and Gaskell, both Captains in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the Territorial Army, were on hand to witness the effect of the disease, and the following year they published this study of the disease's symptoms and treatment as they observed it. The text is accompanied by plates illustrating meningitis' effects on the skin and brain.
