Full Description
Programmes that subsidize poor families who keep their children in school are part of a new approach to poverty reduction in developing countries. Observations show that these "Cash for Education" programmes help reduce poverty in the short run by raising the earning power of these children in the long run. The authors explore the record of these programmes in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Honduras and Mexico and provide a framework for encouraging this model elsewhere.
