When her devoted husband Michael mysteriously vanishes during a skiing trip with friends, Lauren Chambers determines to find him with the help of private investigator, Nick Bradley. Together they follow leads from California to Washington D.C. - but what they find is not what they expect. Michael, recovering from an accident-induced bout of amnesia, learns that he is really Harper Payne, an FBI special agent, who infiltrated the organisation of the world's most feared assassin, Anthony Scarponi. Payne, after five years living undercover in the Witness Protection program, is brought back by the FBI to refute the new evidence supporting Scarponi's claim of innocence, evidence that has gained him a conditional release from prison. As Nick Bradley attempts to help Lauren Chambers reunite with Payne, her husband, all three find themselves in great danger.
