The role of government, institutions and society has been radically transformed since the 1980s. This book examines how the new development paradigm is put into practice in Pakistan and other underdeveloped countries. It focuses upon the role NGOs, institutions and local goverments play in development related activity, and examines the attempts to alter the gender balance, considered to be one of the main reasons for lack of development.
