Description
The new Peters edition of Fauré's Barcarolles, like that of the Nocturnes, draws on a very wide range of sources including piano rolls played by him and printed copies bearing his corrections. Along with other rare sources, these offer some variant textures in the First Barcarolle and throw important light on tempo and rhythmic treatment in (particularly) the first two Barcarolles. The Fifth Barcarolle shows a vital manuscript variant and some variant rhythmic notation, both of which impinge strongly on the piece's tonal and rhythmic structure; in the Eighth Barcarolle a whole series of faulty or missing accidentals is corrected. A longstanding confusion of slurs and ties is resolved in the Tenth Barcarolle, along with a problem of continuity at one point. Some oft-debated textures in the Eleventh and Twelfth Barcarolles are clarified, along with the correction of an unusually large number of wrong notes in the Eleventh. The remaining pieces appear with many smaller but telling corrections, in all bringing a new clarity to this epoch-defining series of pieces spanning four decades.
Die neue Peters-Ausgabe von Faurés Barcarolles stützt sich, wie die der Nocturnes, auf eine Vielzahl verschiedener Quellen, darunter die von ihm eingespielten Klavierrollen sowie Notenexemplare mit Korrekturen aus seiner Hand. Zusammen mit anderen seltenen Quellen bieten sie abweichende Gestaltungen in der Barcarolle Nr. 1 und gewähren entscheidende Einblicke in die Behandlung von Tempo und Rhythmus vor allem in den ersten beiden Barcarolles.Die Barcarolle Nr. 5 zeigt eine wesentliche Abweichung in der Handschrift sowie Lesarten in der rhythmischen Notation, die sich unmittelbar auf die klangliche und rhythmische Struktur des Stückes auswirken; in der Barcarolle Nr. 8 wird eine ganze Reihe von falschen oder fehlenden Versetzungszeichen korrigiert. Eine hartnäckige Verwechslung von Halte- und Bindebögen in der Barcarolle Nr. 10 wird ebenso aufgelöst wie ein Anschlussproblem, das sich an einer Stelle des Stückes ergibt. Weiterhin werden einige oft angezweifelte Satzstrukturen in den Barcarolles Nr. 11 und 12 geklärt sowie eine ungewöhnliche Anhäufung von falschen Noten in Nr. 11 richtig gestellt. Die restlichen Stücke erscheinen mit vielen kleinen, aber aufschlussreichen Korrekturen, welche dieser Sammlung von Stücken aus vier Jahrzehnten alles in allem eine ganz neue Transparenz verleihen.
