Viele Kompositionen von Wolfgang-Andreas Schultz sind plastische 'Beschreibungen' bekannter oder weniger bekannter Werke der Bildenden Kunst. In seinem Bläserquintett Capriccio notturno von 1984 zeigt er sich als Erzähler, und zwar gleichfalls nur in Musik, ohne alle Worte. Jedes der Instrumente hat eigene Motive - vom Fagott abgesehen, das nur andere parodiert. Wenn man sich die Flöte als Prinzessin, die Oboe als Prinz, die Klarinette als Intrigant, das Horn als Liebhaber und das Fagott als Kobold vorstelle, so Schultz, dann entspinne sich ein romantisch-spukhaftes Märchen um Liebe und Verrat in einer Sommernacht.

Many compositions by Wolfgang-Andreas Schultz are graphic "descriptions" of well-known or lesser known works of fine arts. In his wind quintet Capriccio notturno of 1984 he appears as narrator, yet in music only, without any words. Each instrument has its own motifs - except for the bassoon which only parodies the others. If one imagines the flute as princess, the oboe as prince, the clarinet as schemer, the horn as lover and the bassoon as goblin, says Schultz, a romantic, ghostly tale of love and betrayal in a summer's night ensues.
