Johannes Brahms' Sommeraufenthalt 1893 in Bad Ischl war ertragreich. Neben den Stücken op. 118 entstand auch sein letzter Zyklus mit Klavierstücken, das Opus 119. Zum Eröffnungswerk schrieb der Komponist an Clara Schumann, es wimmele von Dissonanzen, und weiter: "Jeder Takt und jede Note muß wie ritard(ando) klingen, als ob man Melancholie aus jeder einzelnen saugen wollte, mit Wollust und Behagen aus besagten Dissonanzen!" Opus 119 enthält jedoch für jede Gemütslage etwas: Nr. 3 überrascht mit heiter-leichtem C-dur, den Abschluss bildet die trotzige Es-dur Rhapsodie. Mit unserer auf der Grundlage der Brahms-Gesamtausgabe revidierten Edition laden wir Pianisten dazu ein, diesen vielschichtigen Brahms-Kosmos neu zu entdecken.

Johannes Brahms' summer sojourn in 1893 in Bad Ischl was productive. Alongside the pieces op. 118, he also wrote his last cycle of piano pieces, opus 119. The composer wrote to Clara Schumann of the opening work, saying that it was teeming with dissonances and that: "every measure and every note must sound like a ritardando, as if one wanted to suck the melancholy out of each single one, with lust and pleasure out of the aforementioned dissonances!" Yet opus 119 contains something for every mood: No. 3 surprises with its lively and light C major, and the cycle is completed with the defiant rhapsody in E flat major. Our revised edition, based on the Brahms Complete Edition, is an invitation to pianists to rediscover Brahms' complex cosmos.

Le séjour de Johannes Brahms à Bad Ischl durant l'été 1893 fut fructueux. Hormis les pièces op. 118, il composa également son dernier cycle pour piano, l'opus 119. Il écrit à Clara Schumann que la pièce d'introduction fourmille de dissonances et indique plus loin que «chaque mesure et chaque note doit sonner en ritardando, comme si on voulait extraire de ses dissonances de la mélancolie avec volupté et délectation!» Que l'on se rassure, l'op. 119 contient des morceaux pour tous les états d'âme: le n° 3 surprend par sa tonalité d'Ut majeur, légère et enjouée, la dernière pièce est une rapsodie rétive en Mi bémol majeur. Grâce à notre édition révisée d'après l'édition complète des oeuvres de Brahms, nous invitons les pianistes à redécouvrir le monde complexe de Brahms.
