Johannes Brahms' Fantasien op. 116 entstanden vermutlich zusammen mit den Intermezzi op. 117 im Sommer 1892 in Bad Ischl. Der Aufenthalt im Salzkammergut inspirierte Brahms offenbar zur Komposition von Soloklaviermusik, denn ein Jahr später arbeitete er am selben Ort an weiteren Zyklen. Unter diesen späten, melancholischen Klavierstücken ist Op. 116 besonders von Gegensätzen charakterisiert. Vier "träumerische" - so Clara Schumann - Intermezzi wechseln sich mit drei "tief leidenschaftlichen" Capricci ab. Siebenmal echter Brahms, der sich aufgrund mittlerer Schwierigkeiten durchaus auch von Nicht-Virtuosen erschließen lässt. Unsere Revision bringt den Notentext der neuen Brahms-Gesamtausgabe.

Johannes Brahms presumably wrote the Fantasies op. 116 at the same time as the Intermezzi op. 117 in the summer of 1892 in Bad Ischl. His sojourn in the Salzkammergut obviously inspired Brahms to write music for solo piano, as a year later he worked on other cycles when he was there. Amongst these late melancholy piano pieces, op. 116 is in particular characterised by opposites. Four "dreamy" - according to Clara Schumann - intermezzi are juxtaposed with three "deeply passionate" capricci. Seven pieces in true Brahms' style, which are also accessible to non-virtuosos due to their medium level of difficulty. Our revision contains the musical text of the new Brahms Complete Edition.

Les Fantaisies op. 116 de Johannes Brahms furent probablement composées avec les Intermezzi op. 117 durant le séjour qu'il fit au cours de l'été 1892 à Bad Ischl, dans le Salzkammergut. Cet endroit l'inspirait visiblement à composer de la musique pour piano seul, puisque l'année suivante, il travailla à d'autres cycles. Parmi ces oeuvres tardives tout imprégnées de mélancolie, l'opus 116 se détache par ses contrastes. Quatre Intermezzi «rêveurs» (selon les dires de Clara Schumann) alternent avec trois Capricci «profondément passionnés». Du pur Brahms à sept reprises, mais de difficulté moyenne et donc pas réservé uniquement aux virtuoses. Notre révision repose sur le texte musical de la nouvelle édition complète des oeuvres de Brahms.
