Die Aufführung seines Stückes Sevilla brachte Albéniz 1886 in Madrid nicht nur öffentlichen Erfolg, sondern auch den Auftrag, eine achtsätzige Suite espagnole für Klavier (HN 783) zu komponieren. Deren Abschluss dauerte zwar 15 weitere Jahre, aber Sevilla erschien schon 1886 in einer Einzelausgabe. Den meisten dürfte die temperamentvolle Miniatur über die spanische Stadt und den dort beheimateten Flamenco nicht im Original bekannt sein, denn Albéniz hat das musikalische Kolorit hier so überzeugend eingefangen, dass die Gitarristen das Stück sofort für sich entdeckten. Mit unserer Henle-Urtextausgabe für Klavier geben wir den Pianisten nun Gelegenheit, den Flamenco für das Klavier zurückzuerobern.

When Albéniz' work Sevilla was performed in Madrid in 1886, it not only brought the composer public recognition but also a commission to compose an eight-movement Suite espagnole for piano (HN 783). Although it took him a further 15 years to complete the latter, Sevilla was already published in a single edition in 1886. Most people are probably not familiar with the original version of this spirited miniature about the Spanish city and its native flamenco. This is because Albéniz captured the musical character so effectively that guitar players immediately claimed the piece for themselves. Our Henle Urtext edition for piano now gives pianists the chance to reclaim flamenco for the piano.

L'exécution de sa pièce «Sevilla» à Madrid en 1886 fut non seulement un succès public pour Albéniz, mais mena également à la commande d'une «Suite espagnole» en huit mouvements pour piano (HN 783). Ce n'est que 15 ans plus tard qu'il en termina la composition, alors que «Sevilla» était déjà parue en 1886 en édition séparée. Cette miniature pleine de tempérament sur la ville espagnole, berceau du flamenco, n'est que peu connue des mélomanes dans sa version originale, car Albéniz a saisi le coloris musical d'une façon si convaincante que les guitaristes s'approprièrent immédiatement la pièce. Notre édition pour piano Henle Urtext permet désormais aux pianistes de reconquérir le flamenco pour leur instrument.
