Die drei beliebten Intermezzi op. 117 kann man als Inbegriff des brahmsschen Spätwerks für Klavier bezeichnen. Clara Schumann bekannte: "In diesen Stücken fühle ich endlich wieder musikalisches Leben in meine Seele ziehen und spiele mit Hingebung". Brahms selbst äußerte sich, wie so oft, lakonisch. Obwohl er die drei Intermezzi selbst mitunter als "Wiegenlieder" bezeichnete, lehnte er diese Betitelung offiziell ab: "Es müsste dann ja dabeistehen 'Wiegenlied einer unglücklichen Mutter' oder eines trostlosen Junggesellen". Die Neuausgabe der mäßig schwierigen Intermezzi (Stufe 5/6) ist nun nach dem Text der neuen Brahms-Gesamtausgabe revidiert und mit dem Fingersatz von Andreas Boyde versehen.

The three popular Intermezzi op. 117 can be seen as the epitome of Brahms' late work for piano. Clara Schumann confessed: "In these pieces I at last feel musical life stir once again in my soul".
Brahms reacted, as he often did, in a rather brusque manner. Although he sometimes described the three Intermezzi as being "Wiegenlieder" (lullabies), he formally rejected this title: "It should then say, lullaby of an unhappy mother or of a disconsolate bachelor." The new edition of these moderately difficult Intermezzi (level of difficulty 5/6) has now been revised following the musical text of the Brahms Complete Edition, and has fingerings by Andreas Boyde.

Les trois célèbres Intermezzi op. 117 peuvent être considérés comme l'incarnation de l'oeuvre tardive pour piano de Brahms. Clara Schumann confessait: «Dans ces pièces, j'entends enfin à nouveau une vie musicale s'emparer de mon âme et je les joue avec ardeur». Comme bien souvent, Brahms s'exprima de manière laconique. Bien qu'il considérait les trois Intermezzi comme des «berceuses», il en refusa officiellement le titre: «il faudrait alors mettre 'Berceuse d'une mère malheureuse' ou d'un célibataire inconsolable». La nouvelle édition de ces pièces de difficulté moyenne (degré 5/6) est désormais revue d'après le texte de la nouvelle édition complète des oeuvres de Brahms et doigtée par Andreas Boyde.
