"Einige seiner schönsten Eingebungen hat Gershwin bisher weder veröffentlicht noch aufgeführt. Wahrscheinlich wird die Entstehung der 24 Preludes ihm einen noch höheren Rang im Heer der zeitgenössischen Komponisten bescheren". So kündigte 1925 ein Verehrer in der Zeitschrift Vanity Fair das Großprojekt George Gershwins an, à la Bach und Chopin Präludien durch alle Tonarten zu komponieren. Am 4. Dezember des folgenden Jahres führte der Komponist fünf dieser Stücke öffentlich auf, zu seinen Lebzeiten veröffentlichte der vielbeschäftigte Broadway-Liebling jedoch nur die berühmten drei Preludes for Piano (1927), die wir nun erstmals nach allen Regeln der Editionskunst in einer Urtextausgabe vorlegen._

"Some of Gershwin's finest inspirations have not as yet been either published or publicly performed. It is probable that the production of his twenty-four preludes ... will award him a still higher rank in the army of contemporary composers." In 1925, an admirer thus heralded George Gershwin's ambitious project in Vanity Fair, namely to compose preludes in all keys as Bach and Chopin had done before.
On 4 December of the following year, the composer publicly performed five of these pieces. However, the extremely busy darling of Broadway only published the famous three Preludes for Piano (1927) during his lifetime. We are now proud to present them for the first time in a state-of-the-art Urtext edition._

«Jusqu'ici Gershwin n'a ni publié ni exécuté plusieurs de ses plus belles inspirations. La composition des 24 Préludes lui vaudra probablement un rang encore plus élevé parmi la multitude des compositeurs contemporains». C'est en ces termes qu'en 1925, un admirateur annonce dans la revue Vanity Fair le grand projet nourri par George Gershwin de composer sur les traces de Bach et Chopin des préludes couvrant toutes les tonalités. Le 4 décembre de l'année suivante, Gershwin joue en public cinq de ces pièces, mais de son vivant, le compositeur favori de Broadway, très occupé, ne publiera pourtant que les célèbres trois Preludes for Piano (1927), que nous présentons ici, selon toutes les règles de l'art éditorial, dans une édition Urtext._
